I'm Julie Marriott, the creator behind Camille Handmade. I am a San Diego-based surface pattern designer and painter who is passionate about color, pattern and design.
Patterns excite me because they enliven otherwise ordinary objects, and infuse our daily lives with beauty, color and creativity. I am passionate about creating work that is bright, joyful, and optimistic, and that spreads that attitude to those who live with my patterns. My style is playful and feminine, and nature, especially plants and flowers, is a consistent source of inspiration. Recently, my work is inspired by my love of exuberant floral arrangements.
Creating with my hands is very fulfilling for me, so I often begin the design process by sketching or painting in my studio. These hand-drawn or -painted elements become the foundation for my patterns, which I then complete on the computer. Sometimes I'll even take one of my completed paintings and digitally deconstruct and rearrange its elements into a pattern design.
I have designed for the women's apparel market, and am looking forward to branching out into the quilting market. This market particularly appeals to me because it allows artists the freedom to remain faithful to their individual voice. Also, I appreciate the unique relationship between the pattern designer and the individual maker who eventually uses the fabric for their own creative project.
I'd love the opportunity to work with you! For all inquiries, please contact me at [email protected].
